Kasuga Japanese Stone Lantern

This unusual reclaimed Kasuga Japanese stone lantern would make a great addition to a Japanese garden.

This unusual reclaimed Kasuga Japanese stone lantern would make a great addition to a Japanese garden but look equally attractive in a contemporary or classical English garden setting.

The lanterns name comes from the Kasuga Grand Shrine in Nara, Japan, established in 768AD. These tall, imposing lanterns were traditionally used to line the path from the outside gates, Torii, to the temple entrance and act as guardians of the temple.

The top of the lantern is carved to resemble a lotus blossom, the flower of paradise, and a symbol of purity and tealight or candle can be added to the lightbox of an evening, adding to the serene feel of this piece of garden decor.
