This antique orcio has a particularly wide opening, and the handles are placed high, giving it a more slender look to the more round-bellied olive jars. The interior has remains of a glaze, so most probably used as a vessel before being placed in the gardens as an ornament for all to enjoy.
This delightful orcio is from an Impruneta estate collection, and whilst there is no visible potters stamp to date it by, all pieces in the collection pre-date 1920 so will be some 100 years+ old.
The mouth is wide compared to others in the collection, and the handles are placed high, giving it a more slender look to the more round-bellied olive jars. The interior has remains of a glaze, so most probably used as a vessel before being placed in the gardens as an ornament for all to enjoy. It is a lovely looking piece with moss growth and natural ageing, particularly around the floral boss and geometric decoration.
