An outstanding dated and stamped antique olive jar produced by the Vanni family of Impruneta. A unique piece of Italian pottery history and a magnificent item for home and garden decoration.
An impressive Orcio standing at 115cm. For provenance, it is stamped with the potters' name, Giovanni Vanni; and it delightfully has the date of 1848 hand stamped below the floral rosette. The Vanni family were one of the great kiln dynasties, producing from the 1600s to late 1800s and much interesting information concerning them can be found online.
It is well-aged with moss and organic growth. As the gallery pictures show, at some stage in its long life, some repair has been carried out using the old method of stapling; which is an art in itself. This work adds a great deal of character to the Orcio.
